This week's thrush immigration seems comparable to that of October 1990 which occurred in similar weather conditions. Very difficult to collate numbers of redwings and fieldfares etc with grounded birds, birds movinbg south and west and new birds arriving almost continuously since Monday. Daily ringing confirms a massive throughput of birds as there have been very few retraps. Today started with 5000 mixed thrushes leaving a roost on the West Dunes

Todays highlights from thes outh end of the NNR;

redwing 6000
fieldfare 3000
blackbird 500
song thrush 130
starling 2300
ring ouzel 36
swallow 7
com redstart 2
black redstart 8
firecrest
goldcrest 70
woodcock 2
bearded tit 5
little auk 1
Lapland bunting

Thanks to GG, AB, RD PH, MK, JPS
