On my way to Manchester this pm and perched by the side of the A46 about 300 yards south from the Thorpe-on-the-Hill roundabout, were a large flock of Waxwings. There's a convenient lay-by on the left to pull into. I had a quick count and there at least 200 birds present, but I missed a few so the real number would have been higher. They were apparently feeding on Hawthorn berries in the hedgerow which runs alongside the carriageway.

Merry Christmas!

Grahame

Not one in that area when I went at about 11:30. Just spotted one in Witham St Hughes near the industrial units. It's a mystery where such a large flock can disappear to. Covered the area from Thorpe to Aubourn, Pennell's roundabout to Witham St Hughes and then on the A46 to Norton Disney turn-off
Did spot the lesser spotting Freddy Johnson though!
