The drake Smew was showing well this afternoon on the R Slea pit towards the eastern end, then nearer the centre, 1.15 onwards. Moved to the Hide Pit (does it have another name?) for about 2pm. After some 25 minutes, I picked up the Bittern feeding within the reedy fringe on the far side of the pit, exactly opposite the hide, at 2.25pm. It moved left through the reeds and showed well in the open for some 15 minutes on and off before flying across towards the hide and dropping into the reed bed some 30 yards to the left at 2.40pm. Photographed pretty well by 2 other guys in the hide, perhaps they'll put them in the album later,

Phil
