Great list, Terry, - congratulations.

Re your 5 Waxwings "flying from the hedgerow to the floor, feeding on the floor then back, strange!!!"
Waxwings often fly from a hedgerow to the floor (ground) to drink, even from quite shallow puddles which can be difficult to see if the ground is uneven. Were your Waxwings perhaps doing that?
I can't think of any standard food item they would find on the ground.

Regards,

Freddy

it was a field that had been ploughed with numerous small puddles so its possible, i thought after insects, a few gnats around in the sheltered areas despite the wind also checked its 10 years since i have seen a wintering green sand. that was on a sewage farm near derby. :D :D

A Green Sand has wintered in Buck Beck near Toll Bar school the last couple of years, not looked so far this winter.

Hi Terry, I've had 2 green sands this month, 1 on the river Lud at Louth which has held a bird in winter for the last 8 years and the other on the Great Eau at Withern which was there last year.

The BTO winter atlas shows that they winter at very low density as singletons all along the coastal marsh in drains, ditches and rivers.

Hi Terry,

The only Green Sand I have had this month was a single bird on Nocton fen on 3rd.

Most winters I see one or two on the pits and drains around Lincoln.

looked in the bird report, more common than i thought, i guess its being an inland derbyshire lad and not used to it, still its a fair record on open farmland and a bird i definately did not expect to see. :D :D

Careful that mousetach dosen,t bite your nose terry , could make your eyes water at an inconvenient moment.
no wrens had squeezed into a generous sized great tit box if you see a nest with 7 or 8 young you wonder how they and brooding parent fit in, but they do.
cheers John.
