Decided to have a few hours out for a change despite the awful weather. Called at seed merchant first, then drove west on Burringham Road and my mate ( Hawkeye) said he thought there were some Waxwings in a tree. First chance I got I turned round and went back, sure enough he was right yet again . The birds which totalled about 80 were flitting between what looked to be a rowan in someones garden and a big tree on the road. As there were a few people walking past it wasn't easy to do a specific count. We both said in unison " I've not brought my camera" and then smiled. But I had taken my camcorder so despite the darkened sky from which the heavy rain had come I took a few pics and two short videos. We stayed about 20 minutes watching their antics. Well chuffed! First I've seen the ones at Messingham a few year back. Must have been my lucky day (well almost) cos earlier a branch blew off a tree and hit the car and we both thought that it had damged it only to find out that it hadn't, thank goodness! But on arriving home the strong wind had blown my back gate off and bent two rawlbolts in the shape of this ~. We called at BB but nowt. Then to B Hale and had a Kestrel, Grey Heron and 115 Lapwing over plus 40 W Pigeon and about 20 corvid.Despite the weather enjoyed the outing. Kind regards Max |
