Perfect weather for the WeBS count at the south end of Donna Nook this morning. There was practically no passage over the sea, but the calm conditions made it relatively easy to pick out and identify birds on the water. Normally one is confronted by sporadic views of bobbing birds haphazardly disappearing behind the waves, so it was good to be able to watch birds at length and without interruption today. On the sea were 25 Red-throated Divers, one Black-throated Diver, 13 Great Crested Grebes, 150 Common Scoters, one Long-tailed Duck, one Goldeneye, 2 Wigeon, 6 Mallard, 27 Teal and 11 Cormorants. Wader numbers on the shore were pretty well unremarkable, although 91 Bar-tailed Godwits were worthy of note. 120 Pink-footed Geese flew NW over the dunes where a Common Buzzard was seen.
