18 waxwings noted in roadside tree at end of A1500 in Marton (south of Gainsborough) at 09.05.
Very close to location where a flock was noted before Christmas.

Aha, Richard!........I just missed you at the stakeout.
I followed up Brian's report this morning (Sat) arriving at the junction of the A1500 and the A156 in Marton at c.10.40. Having parked, I soon located the Waxwing flock. I counted 17 birds, with 4 perched in a Silver Birch on one side of the A156 and 13 in a Silver Birch on the other.....about 50 yards from the road junction towards Lincoln. The attraction was a row of Rose Hips at the entrance to "The Old Courtyard" and to the rear of the "Black Swan".

The Waxwings were flying down to feed on the Rose Hips on the bushes and also on the many Hips lying on the grass beneath and near the bushes. They flew off S along the A156 at c.11.00 but returned within 10 minutes and started feeding again. This time most of the flock then perched on a nearby large TV aerial.
Many thanks, Brian, for the info.

Today's sighting marks Number 50 since my first on November 11th of 140+ at the ASDA carpark, Hessle, near Hull. Some birders might query such a single-minded project. All I can say is that when you are nearing 80 (in 2 weeks, now), you do things differently (try it,......some time). Then again, it's the challenge. Anyway, watching Waxwings as a birder outside in the fresh air, easily beats watching TV as a couch potato inside in the house air. :D :)
