A dull, damp and misty morning on the patch was brightened by several good birds:-
76 Gadwall
15 Pochard
18 Tufted Duck
1 Great Crested Grebe
5 Cormorants
2 Bitterns seen in flight, one flew from S to N reeds and one from W to S reeds.
1 Curlew flew over W, this is the first record of this scarce patch bird since one on 1st March 2010
c80 Black-headed Gulls
9 Common Gulls
2 Kingfishers on main drain sluice
1 Green Woodpecker
c30 Redwings in birches by borrow pit, several singing
2 Mistle Thrushes singing
1 Nuthatch in wood
2 Bullfinches
3 Reed Buntings
5 Yellowhammers

The addition of Curlew and G C Grebe brings my patch year list up to 76.

The only thing new today was a male Shelduck on the raft at the mere. This is the first record for the year.
