Instead of going to Covenham and Tetney I decided to stay in the village. It was indeed the correct one. Highlights were 4 Jack Snipe A village tick for me, getting very close to 100. 10 Common Snipe 1 Peregrine 1 Green Woodpecker 1 Grey Heron 1 Little Grebe 1 Drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker I have always thought Jack Snipe was a bird I could see easily find in the village due to the wintering Common Snipe. But due to their nature you basically need to step on them to see them. But today there was a Fox in the reeds and that flushed a couple of the Jack Snipe out. I went pond dipping and two more were flushed (not intentionally.) A fine day in some patchy sunshine with a selection of birds you would be happy to come away with after visiting a half decent nature reserve. |
