On my BBS square near Eastoft at 7.30 this morning, three Dotterels (1 female, 2 male) at SE818187, in winter barley (still very sparse and short, in common with many fields this year). Also 16 Golden Plovers in the same field (only 60 ha!) though separate from them.

These are just within the People's Republic of North Lincolnshire but are outside historic Lincolnshire. Which county now records these? I suspect it's Yorkshire but am not sure.

They are not accessible without permission so I'd recommend that if you want to see some you find others somewhere else. If one group's arrived, there are bound to be more.

This is an early occurrence, isn't it? I see there was an exceptional one on Bonby Carrs from 14 April 1998 but generally anything before this last week of the month seems unusual in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire or indeed England. As with other species this spring, nothing for weeks on end then everything's here in a rush. [I see from BirdGuides there has been a handful of dotterel elsewhere in the country over the past week]
