On the morning of Sunday, 21st April, whilst driving out of Humberston towards Tetney, I saw a pair of garganey ducks on the pond/flooded field. I spent some time watching them. I returned a couple of hours later, at 1-30p.m. and they were still there. I decided, on advice, not to post the news immediately just in case they chose to stay around and breed. Sadly this has turned out not to be the case. I have visited at least once daily since but have not seen them again, so I can only suppose that they have moved on.
However subsequent visits have not altogether been a waste of time as I have seen there:- buzzard - mobbed first by 2 crows and then seen off by 2 B H gulls sparrowhawk greenfinch - 4 chaffinch - 4 goldfinch - 3 great-tit - 4 blue-tit - 2 long-tailed tit - 2 black-cap - 1 (m) chiff-chaff - 1 coot - 4 moorhen - 8 greylag geese - 12 Pink-footed goose - 1 mallard 4 numerous wood pigeons
And finally today, went a bit further afield and at Churchill Lane, my first cuckoo of the year heard and then seen quite close to the car-park. Cheers, Patrick.
