The Lincolnshire Bird Club

A cracking find tonight was a migrant Wood Warbler in the hedgerow at Butterley's Pit (opp the Scouts sailing club at Apex Pit) this evening. Showed very well for over half an hour before the rain set in. One brief snatch of song.

I'm at Whisby tomorrow, I hope it stays around. I have a rough Idea of where you mean. From Whisby I have to go the other side of the A46 keep walking along side the train track then right and right again? From google maps it's the hedgrow opposite all the yachts? Any particular part of the hedgerow Grahame?

Nearly right Anthony.....

From Whisby I have to go the other side of the A46 keep walking along side the train track then right and left .

This will take you to a smaller sailing club which is run by a Scout group (the yachts you refer to belong to North Hykeham Sailing Club). The Wood Warbler was in the hedge on the north side of the Pike Drain directly opposite where the gravel track turns into a tarmacked road. This northern side is Butterley's Pit (private fishing lake) but the hedgerow is very easily viewed from the road.

Text from Pete Haywood to say the Wood Warbler is still present 11.30am at Butterley's Pit.

After showing pretty well for about 45 minutes the bird seemed to go to ground about 14:30 and by 15:15 when I left it still hadn't reappeared. The cetti's warbler showed itself briefly at the side of Apex Pit opposite the bridge to the path that runs between Butterly and Teal Lakes. Also in this area were two nightingales, a lesser whitethroat, two sedge warblers and about 50 swallows over Apex Pit

A superb evening at the local tonight on a glorious spring evening.

Wood Warbler - showed very well in the same area between 1740 and 1805 often feeding low down in hawthorns although it did not call or sing whilst present. Got some grief of a Chiffchaff and a male Blackcap on a couple of occasions.
Nightingale - 3 in this immediate area, with a pair in the open at the base of a bramble, one of which then chose to sun itself in an open area in full view for over 5 minutes at around 10ft often bursting into full song. Amazing views.
Lesser Whitethroat - 1 near the bridge by Teal Lake
Sedge Warbler - 2 heard
Willow Warbler - at least 3 singing in the area
Chiffchaff - 3 singing
Blackcap - at least 4 in the general area including a male showing very well.

In the wider area the Cetti's Warbler heard several times moving around but not seen.

Over Apex Pit/Millenium Lakes a quick count produced:
Swift - 11
Swallow - 14
House Martin - 20
Sand Martin - 10

Bonus was a Water Vole along the ditch near Teal Lake. First I have seen for a little while along here.

It was a an excellent find by Grahame and initially showed well while I was there

No sign of the Wood Warbler this evening, however did find

Willow Warbler (20)
Chiffchaff (25)
Blackcap
Sedge Warbler (8)
Common Whitethroat
Cetti's Warbler, heard but not seen
Nightingale (2) Oak Wood area, singing and showing well.

This all topped off a great day for watching birds, as lunch time having a coffee outside watched 1 Rook mob 2 Buzzards over Canwick.
