Today's Sightings (7th May): Had a probable Pallas's Warbler from my flat at Sykes Farm this afternoon. After hearing the call (several high pitched chu-ee, chu-ee notes) I looked up and saw a tiny bird in a Beach tree, reminiscent of a Goldcrest, frequently fluttering and hovering as it was feeding in the canopy. It disappeared from view after a few seconds (to brief to get the binoculars on it!!). I phoned Kev Wilson and John Shaugnessy about the bird straight away, and they arrived a minute or so later. Despite our best efforts trying to find the bird we couldn't relocate it. The joys of birding.... Spotted Redshank 1 (breeding plumage, on Jacksons Marsh) Ringed Plover 530 (Estuary count) Little Tern 50 Common Buzzard 1 (south) Cuckoo 2 Turtle Dove 1 Wood Sandpiper 1 (south, per John Shaugnessy) 6th May: Osprey 2 (in off the sea early morning, 1 bird hunted over Tennyson Sands briefly before disappearing off north. Hawfinch 1 (flew up and down the West Dunes, then disappeared into the plantation) Black Redstart 1 Cheers, Richard |
