A male Pied Flycatcher showed well today for about 30 minutes at Messingham Sand Quarries before disappearing as the rain moved in and despite searching was not relocated.

Also present was a fine drake Garganey along with good numbers of warblers and finally a large arrival of Swifts.

This reserve still pulls in the birds with a bird count carried out on 5th May producing 88 species including;

2nd summer Med Gull
Willow Warbler 22
Chiffchaff 8
Sedge Warbler 14
Reed Warbler 39
Blackcap 13
Garden Warbler 7
Whitethroat 10
Lesser Whitethroat 1

regards

Wayne
