A drake Red-breasted Merganser was also on Jackson's Marsh. A Short-eared Owl was hunting over the marsh by the main car park this afternoon.

A 'purring' Turtle Dove also showed very nicely in the east dunes - thanks Kev, and a single Green Hairstreak was seen in the same general area.

I have just followed up yesterdays common rosefinch record - it was a singing male (brown bird) seen by John Nicholson 1km south of the NNR boundary on the west side of Greenshanks Creek.

Good morning (I think).
We are thinking of going to Gib Point today. Does anyone know if the Great White Egret is still around? Many thanks

Was the Great White Egret still at Gib. this afternoon? I see that one has appeared in the Spurn area and wondered if it was the same bird that had moved on.

Hi Roy,

The Great White Egret was on Jacksons Marsh for most of the morning, then spent the afternoon in the Croft Marsh ditch and then it was finally observed flying into the Cowbank drain out of sight late afternoon.

Early morning on Jacksons Marsh certainly seems to be the most reliable place to see this bird. However it may start to favour the food source in the Cowbank drain.

A Temminck's Stint was also found this evening on the Fenland Lagoon by Gary Wright.

Cheers,

Richard
