On Monday afternoon Bob Sheppard and I had a check up on the local owls and raptors. It was good to see a pair of Turtle Doves in Rippingale Fen, one of 3 pairs in the area, and astonishing to find a Nightjar sitting on a wooden crate in Dunsby Fen. We saw it too late to avoid flushing it, the absence of white spots on wings and tail indicated that it was a female. Still no Spotted Flycatchers in Dunsby.

I'm relieved to say that the first Spotted Flycatcher of the year arrived in Dunsby today, 3 weeks later than usual.
