A journey yesterday from Leicester to Boston by train produced considerable numbers and suggests that these birds had arrived in the last 24 hours and were feeding up over areas of water where there was an abundance of available insects. A colleague in Leicestershire has since confirmed that a considerable influx has occurred in the last two days in the County and that it is generally thought that these birds are in fact more or less 4 weeks late.

The locations were as follows and two are in Lincolnshire

Attenborough old gravel workings now flooded 290

Rectory Junction between Nottingham and Radcliffe where the line crosses the River Trent 85

Barkston Lincs Where the line crosses the River Witham more like a stream at this location 38

Between Swineshead and Boston 80

In all probability these numbers are far less than the total at each location and this is highly likely at Attenborough and Rectory Junction.
