Set myself up on the Grebe Lake seat and waited while DJ went walkabout. On plonking myself down, the female was on the raft, so I shot a few pics off and then waited for the male to return with her supper, about twenty mins later I heard one or other calling so crossed my fingers etc Wanted a pic first and by golly got it when the male gave her what looked to me like an Eel but more likely to be a fish, as it was part way in her beak and throat it was hard to see. Decided to hang on and hopefully catch the same on video. By then I was starting to get cold and waited in anticipation, sure enough the male returned and again I heard a call. Sure enough got the almost same scene repeated when it gave her the fish and shot five mins of video. I was punching the air and saying yeah got what I came for! JUST REALISED I HADN'T SAID IT WAS THE PAIR OF COMMON TERN, IN CASE ANYONE THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE Went back to car for a snack etc and waited for his lordship, then showed him my efforts, to say he was a little peeved was an understatement An excellent day considering I almost stayed home, well done that man! Next jaunt is Wednesday, hope it doesn't rain. Kind regards John and DJ PS: Nearly forgot had a Kestrel over Bottesford Beck on A159 on way home |

June 8th: Carr Dyke 16.30 - 17.50 Ran an errand so popped in and pleased I did. Sprawk - 1 Kestrel - 2 ( both occupying a telegraph pole apiece) Yellow Wag - 2 Lapwing - 2 Mallard - 1 LBB Gull - 1 Swift - 7 Crow - 2 Whitethroat - 1 Pied Wag - 1 ( with food) Common Gull - 7 Moorhen - 2 ( well down on other years) Swallow - 2 House Martin - 2 While watching I was listening to bird calls and songs, the Pied Wag came over next to car as I was playing it's call, soon as the CD went on to Yellow Wag it left I'm getting better with them. Again enjoyed the fresh air. Time for tea. Kind regards JTG |
