Post subject:  Donna Nook, 8th July.

A singing Common Rosefinch was present at the south end of Donna Nook this morning. It was a brown immature bird showing no discernible red and was reluctant to show itself well in the misty and light drizzly conditions. Although it delivered its distinctive song freely, I could only manage to see it fleetingly on three occasions between 1030 and 1045 as it constantly moved around amongst a patch of elder, hawthorn and sea buckthorn. When I returned to the locality about one hour later, I could not find the bird again. Roy and Linda Harvey were also unable to find it despite an extensive search in the afternoon. At such a late date, one can't help but wonder where this late migrant has been during the past few weeks.
