The WeBS count at Donna Nook today was fairly unremarkable. In the early afternoon, Chris Heaton found a male Red-backed Shrike at Pye's Hall and Barrie Clarkson was able to photograph the bird shortly afterwards. However, Mark Johnson, Phil Espin and myself were unable to locate it later in the afternoon, despite extensive searching.

I had a Black Redstart just north of Stonebridge Car park c4.15 and Barry Clarkson had 3 Crossbills on the minor road just south of the car park at the same time.

The shrike was still present in the early afternoon, but is very adept at vanishing for long periods. 7 Crossbills flew north over my garden and out towards Stonebridge at 1650.
