A day off work and a tour around some of my old stomping grounds. Some of the more notable sightings.

Holbeach Marsh:

Barn Owl - 1
Kestrel - 1
Little Egret - 19 (9 Holbeach Marsh, 10 Fosdyke Wash)
Common Tern - 6
Greenshank - 2
Whimbrel - 2
Snipe - 3
Black-tailed Godwit - 29
Turnstone - 12
Grey Plover - 12
Golden Plover - 16
Redshank - 80
Oystercatcher - 147
Swallow - total of 16 west

Also 4 Marsh Harriers spread across the wider Holbeach/Wash area

plus good numbers of Common Seals spread across the saltmarsh (see mammal news)

Moulton Marsh:

Little Egret - 5 along River Welland
Kestrel - 2 (m+f)
plus two notable scarcities.......
Spotted Flycatcher - 1 juv
Turtle Dove - 1 purring away

Kirkby Pits:

Some breeding success noted amongst some of the scarcer waders, plus:

Green Sandpiper - 1
Lapwing - 238
Common Tern - 8 (4 juvs)
Oytercatcher - 1
Teal - 17
Pochard - 8
Shoveler -7
Gadwall - 7
Wigeon - 1
Egyptian Goose - 1
Marsh Harrier - 1 tussling with a Buzzard over the back of the pits
Green Woodpecker - 2 showing v well (1 juv)

just after you left the hide 2 more Green Sandpipers came in, then all 3 started chasing each other. At one point one landed on top of the hide, another perched on the 'Kingfisher' post and sat there for about 20 minutes.

Nice to know there are a few about Russ, and we did suspect that there might have been more than one, but sounds like you had quite a show. Hope you managed to get some shots.
