I may be totally wrong about how twitter should work. It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. lol The fact I can't post direct on our new twitter feed is annoying me just a little. When I posted on LBC and asked about LBC having a twitter site, I didn't envisage it being In this form. I'm no expert, far from it but I just don't recognize this as the fast 'Twitter' Instant news feed that only uses 140 characters. I fully expected Instant bird news 'directly' sent to and recieved by birders (me) telephones. Again I may be wrong (again) but to me what we have is Twitternet with most of the posts having links to the internet (LBC's website) to read the bird news, you have to go on the LBC website. I don't think that's how twitter via telephones is meant to work. Is it? Most smartphone batteries won't last half a days birding on the Linc's coast if you have to get the info via LBC website every time as seems to be the case. Twitter using your phone is a great idea and pretty instant using only 140 characters to report birds. I use it many times, every single day. This new LBC (twitter-internet) system, to me is mostly regurgitating LBC website bird news. Plus the discussion "Fall, habitat et al" and unfortunately in full. Why? Let's keep twitter but as we all know and love it please. |

Hi All. I wasn't entirely wrong about how Twitter should work but must admit I was/am still quite surprised at how well it has/does work for the LBC members that regularly use Twitter ;o) Thanks to Andrew and I presume a team of moderators & last but not least the committee for giving members this wonderful facility |

Been meaning to post this or a while but keep forgetting.... hope this is the right place for it. Appreciate twitter isn't everyone's cup of tea so won't argue for and against it. This is purely a post directed to and for active LBC twitter users. Was wondering if any Lincs birders wanted to surrender there twitter names and location? My thinking around this came about after my old man found the Black Stork at Tetney and I didn't know/couldn't recall which birders on twitter lived in the area (apologies to those I missed out). With bird news services wanting to be first to get news out to justify subscriptions they will occasionally jump the gun. Be good if there are sightings to give heads up to local birders or let others be aware of 'reports' so they can go and check them out and confirm. A good hashtag to use and search for is #rbnLIN though with the size of the county, they may not all be relevant. Not sure how to group this? Be good to have a steer from Forum mods/members. Is it worth starting a separate thread for each area or just start listing on this thread? |

I'll follow your lead then James @BoyWonderBirder and pretty much Frampton and Freiston, ie Boston area, only but do bird from Cleethorpes leisure centre down to Tetney occasionally when at home and that's where my old man birds as well. |

Toby Collett wrote: Can I have my lead balloon back please? Thanks for playing James I think that the problem that most people won't look at this section, I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't seen the retweet. Well at least we're an exclusive club of 2. James |

Hi Toby. I'm @idlebirder on Twitter. Unfortunately not local to Linc's, despite at times birding almost as much at Tetney RSPB and or Saltfleet/Theddlethorpe NNR, as I do my local patches at the 'Idle Valley NR' & 'IdleWashlands' in Nottinghamshire. |

Post subject: | Re: @Lincsbirding News on Twitter |
Recently i was involved in a conversation with some local Linc's birders at Gib. It was prompted by some birders missing seeing the Red-flanked bluetail by only minute's. "If only Linc's BC Twitter feed was instant messaging, I would have seen this bird. Which raised the question why can't it be instant? I suggested that after adking the same question when LBC twitter feed started, it was suggedted it was due in the main to a "fear that on an unmoderated twitter forum, any abuse or language would be a worry for LBC". Immediately one regular Gib. birder suggested that "Linc's bird club members on Twitter should submit their real & twitter name to moderators, so in the event of abuse of any kind the offenders would be blocked". So in the interest of all LBC twitter members either, or giving/receiving other member instant bird/wildlife news, what is preventing this from happening? |

Hi Derek, PLEASE tell me exactly how you set up instant news feed and I will do it, BUT I don't think it can be done. If someone includes the @Lincsbirding text within their message, it still requires someone to retweet the message (and, I still haven't found anyone who is prepared to spend 24 hours a day sat at a computer waiting for the messages to come in). I'm very happy for you to phone me and talk me through the twitter setup, but I can't get it to work. Additionally (and more importantly), if I were able to set up the twitter system so any message that contains the @Lincsbirding text were automatically retweeted to all the @Lincsbirding followers, then what about all the spam/porn/adverts/self-publicizing that at present I choice not to retweet - do you really want to see ALL those tweets - I'm not sure you/or the @Lincsbirding followers do? The new feeds and information services supplied by the LBC website carry no guarantee to ensure members get the ALL the news - there are subscription services that do do this (birdguides & Rare Bird Alert) etc... |
