The bittern first seen by Pete Scott on August 20th showed very well for Paul Pulletz and myself at Boultham Mere this morning. It sat on the far bank for about twenty minutes before flying off into the left hand inlet. Also showing well about the same time was a hunting hobby. No sign of Andy Sims spotted redshank on the walk to the Mere

About as rare as the spotted flycatchers methinks - today anyway
