Highlight of a couple of hours or so at Bardney Pits this morning were 2 Black-necked Grebes showing well on the small pit just north of the southern most pit. Still present when I left around 1.30.

Amongst other things noted were some excellent numbers of wildfowl, particularlt Shoveler:

Shoveler - 128
Teal - 117
Gadwall - 17
Mallard - 12
Pochard - 8
Tufted Duck - 10
Wigeon - 48
Pintail - 1 female
Mute Swan - 25
Greylag - 215
Cormorant - 3
Great crested Grebe - 1
Little Grebe - 10
Black - headed Gull - 29

Lapwing - 3
Reed Bunting - 3
Kestrel - 1
Buzzard - 2 showing very well hovering over the banks
Kingfisher - 1 flew upriver on the Witham
