A quiet feel to the Reserve but a respite from the wet gales felt welcoming. Chowder held a gathering of common waders at high tide, including 160 lapwing, 46 golden plover and 19 redshank. A cetti's warbler sang near the Old Centre car park and a male marsh harrier cruised the pits. Skeins of pink footed geese, amounting to 400 birds, passed high overhead and Mandy West alerted me to two whooper swans that passed over Ness Pit.
