In hawthorn bush between Bassingham and Aubourn. Had a mouse which it impaled on a thorn, then flew off only to return seconds later and gulp it down. A first for me so well chuffed :D :D . Got some good photos but file size too big to download to Forum, hadn't changed settings.

Could this be the same bird that was recorded at Blackmoor Bridge on 20/10/13 (over wintering in the area)?

Send me a copy of the image and I'll upload it for you...

Shrike still present this morning, although more mobile. Interestingly i observed it hover, almost Kestrel-like, over some game cover for approximately 10 seconds.

Just wondering if anyone has photos of this bird that show any detail on the ring - and if you didn't know yes it is ringed! It doesn't sound like a British ring either, so any help would be appreciated. Reply here or drop me an email at mark.grantham@bto.org

Not much extra luck on this bird, but the pics I have seen seem to suggest a ring number containing 4606... With the address at the top, this also seems to be a BTO ring and it is probably going to be LE46061, which was ringed at Gib Point in November 2012. Makes sense I suppose that this would be a returning bird, but any extra info would be much appreciated.

Having spent sometime along Fen Lane last Sunday ( without seeing the Shrike ). I think Andrew is correct in his thinking, in that it is the same bird as I found at Blackmoor Bridge in October.
At the end of Fen Lane, by the gate, the southern part of the Blackmoor Bridge flood area can be clearly seen.

Regards David

( nice photos )

No sign of bird this morning......only a Green Woodpecker and loads of Fieldfares.

I am sure it is the same bird you saw in October David, i looked on google earth when i first saw it and estimated it to be only approx 2000 metres from your sighting.

Could this bird be the same as the one reported on Christmas last year by a guy from Corwall who was visiting his Mother in Lincoln. As far as I recall he didn't put it in the book but he mentioned it when i saw him in the hide earlier this year
