My New Years resolution was to visit Toft Newton weekly throughout the year and this is my third visit since new years day, having recently re-joined LBC. I received my log in details just a few days ago just to time to record one of the most exciting birds I've seen there in over twenty years (on and off) of working my local patch!

Hen Harrier - superb male first spotted over the fields to the north of the reservoir being mopped by half a dozen crows. It was high up and skirted the east of the reservoir before coming down to a low level (ironically where the road is) and then it went really high in the sky and disappeared flying south still pursued by a corvid. What a treat!

Also,
Grey Wagtail 1
Goldeneye 10 (6 female, 4 male)
Shelduck 6
Mute Swan 12 (all flew off whilst there but then two returned)
Little Grebe 6
Coot 110
Tufted Duck 95
Fieldfare 10
Gadwall 23
Pochard 4
Wigeon 1

Cheers,

Gary Fenwick
