Failed to find the Smew when I went this afternoon.

However, the usual species were present; Mallard, Wigeon, Teal, Pochard, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, 9 Goldeneye and a pair of Shoveler.

3 Year Ticks - Great Crested Grebe, Greater Black-backed Gull, Grey Heron.

4 Redshank along edges of landfill pools.
12 Chaffinch looking for food on the landfill piles.
Good numbers of Black-headed (including one bird that has acquired nearly all of its chocolate-brown 'breeding hood') and Herring Gulls on landfill.

Year List up to 65 species!

Katherine,
If you try again use a 'scope to look at the far bank of the pit to the right hand side of the conveyor belt looking back towards Coningsby. It was hugging that far bank and wasn't (surprisingly) very conspicuous,

Male Smew & Redhead were visible from the road with a few Tufted Ducks on the pit opposite the one described above, i.e. right hand side of road facing Coningsby just past Woodhall Sand and Gravel track entrance. TF 23135 60432

Male Smew on south-west pit early afternoon to-day (7 Feb) - seems to be moving around from pit to pit
and not staying in one place which seems to have been normal behaviour in the past!
