Post subject:  Westgate Wood, Boston - 19/03/14

A cycling trip to Westgate Wood saw the following:

YEAR TICK 80: Red-legged Partridge - 2 in field to north of wood
YEAR TICK 81: Skylark - 2 singing above wood

Woodpigeon - 200 or so in 3 flocks.

Also present:

Wren, Blackbird (3), Collared Dove, Goldfinch, Reed Bunting, Great Tit, Blue Tit and Robin (2).

2 Brown Hares in fields.

Popped down briefly at lunch today. There were a handful of Redpoll feeding close to the entrance at the Old Hammond Beck Bank end of the wood.

Loads of Skylark about - unfortunately dog walkers persist in trampling over their breeding area despite signs everywhere asking them not to use it from March onwards. I say "dog walkers". They actually just stand in the middle of the meadow and throw balls left, right and centre whilst Fido thrashes about all over the gaff.
