Bob Sheppard and I have carried out a few early season Barn Owl checks and as expected (due to mild winter and high numnbers of Field Mice and Field Voles) things do look extremely promising for 2014. Most have already started laying and some are on full clutches which is around four weeks early. The clutch sizes are very large - we found one of 8 eggs and 2 of seven eggs within our first dozen nests. One box also had a Tawny Owl and a clutch of six eggs which is quite exeptional. All in all, if things go well, we could be looking at a record breeding year.........very good news after last years results.
