Just before we get to Kirkby, 5 Swifts over Swanholme Lakes this morning were my first for nearly a fortnight and perhaps hinted at a more general arrival?

Kirkby Pits

Highlight amongst 7 species of wader present was a..........

Wood Sandpiper - 1 showing well on the reserve pit late afternoon. Also of note....
Dunlin - 1 sum plu bird also on the above pit

Other selected sightings included:

Common Tern - 17
Wigeon - 2
Teal - 1
Several Gadwall and Pochard pairs
Reed Warbler - 2
Sand Martin - c.40
Buzzard - 1

Kirkby Moor area

A different call suddenly alerted to...........

Hobby - 2 birds went dashing past at high speed before being lost to view over distant farmland.

Kirkby pits 060514, 08.15 - 09.15:

Reserve Pit

Wood Sandpiper 1, but flew off down the other end of this pit at 09.05, not sure if it dropped down or left
Dunlin 1
Avocet 6
Common Tern 8

Ringed Plover 2
Egyptian Goose 1
