Decided to do a big bird day list today, just for a bit of fun. Alarm was set for 0445hrs, then birding commenced at 0500hrs and finished at 2130hrs! The results are as follows: (the list is in the order that I saw them) Chaffinch 25 Goldfinch 20 Jackdaw 100 Carrion Crow 5 Wood Pigeon 100 Wren 5 GARGANEY 2 pair still present Black-tailed Godwit 79 Greenshank 1 Redshank 30 Dunlin 3000+ Snipe 2 Moorhen 6 Coot 5 (2 chicks on Jackson's) Gadwall 20 Mallard 15 Black-headed Gull 350 Shelduck 100 Avocet 7 Greylag Goose 10 Canada Goose 10 Common Tern 2 Tufted Duck 15 Teal 5 Whitethroat 60+ Pied Wagtail 1 Swallow 350 south Pheasant 8 Blackbird 4 Magpie 10 Tawny Owl 1 Chiffchaff 4 Great Tit 20 Blackcap 2 Robin 6 Linnet 37 Blue Tit 5 Great Spotted Woodpecker 1 Dunnock 5 Greenfinch 5 Oystercatcher 13 Meadow Pipit 50+ Skylark 20+ Reed Bunting 4 Curlew 100 Brent Goose 100 Turnstone 50 Ringed Plover 200 Herring Gull 200 Cormorant 3 Great Black-backed Gull 20 Little Tern 40 Eider 15 Whimbrel 9 Swift 40 south Wheatear 3 Yellow Wagtail 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull 26 south Common Sandpiper 1 Little Egret 5 BLACK TERN 1 adult offshore Gannet 30 south Rook 5 south Sand Martin 2 south Cuckoo 3 Sanderling 60 Common Gull 30 Sparrowhawk 3+ Pink-footed Goose 1 south offshore Turtle Dove 4 (2 pairs displaying) Sedge Warbler 5 Yellowhammer 2 Fulmar 2 north Common Scoter pair south Mute Swan 2 Lesser Whitethroat 1 Stock Dove 1 Willow Warbler 3 Reed Warbler 1 Little Grebe 1 Lapwing 3 Shoveler 3 Pochard 1 SERIN female still at the bird feeding station (showing well on and off, all day) House Martin 40 Grey Plover 500 Knot 1000 Marsh Harrier 1 Hobby 1 Kestrel 1 Grey Heron 1 Starling 1 Long-tailed Tit 2 Corn Bunting 1 GREAT WHITE EGRET was very unexpected (viewed from Harvey's hide flying over the Cowbank Drain then disappeared inland) Mistle Thrush 1 Song Thrush 1 Barn Owl 1 Kittiwake 4 north Mediterranean Gull 1 A total of 101 species recorded during the day Cheers, Richard |
