Plenty about. Highlights reported/ seen today were:-
Mediterranean Gull - 3 (in front of reedbed hide) Little Gull - 1 (on reedbed in front of VC) Common Sandpiper - 2 (1 on reedbed, 1 behind East Hide) Green Sandpiper - 1 (reported near East Hide) Garganey - 1 (wet grassland near end carpark) Turtle Dove - 2 (in hedgerow near reservoir approx. 1715)
Loads of Ringed Plover about at the moment, and it looks like a bumper year for Little Ringed Plover. Plenty of Dunlin have been dropping onto the scrapes too, whilst at least two or three small parties of Whimbrel can still be found on the grassland. Swift numbers have exploded over the last few days, with the bottom of the reedbed swarming with them this afternoon, and plenty around the reservoir just after 5pm. Good number of Swallow amongst them too, along with the odd Sand Martin and House Martin. Unsurprisngly, the reservoir (or the rape field behind it) also seems to be the best place for Hobby sightings at the moment as well, with both our VSO and one of our regulars reporting sightings from this area.
Finally, the Spoonbill continues to be enigmatic. No reports to the VC today, but it did show yesterday afternoon and evening.
