Post subject: | Marsh Warbler |
while looking for the Black Stork on the 21st I came across a singing male Marsh Warbler in some perfect looking breeding habitat on the bank of the River Bain; this is the second earliest ever record of this specie sin the county after a non singing bird at Theddlethorpe on May 17th 1980; details of the location were not broadcast as the site was clearly somewhat sensitive and the potential for the bird settling to breed seemed good; although still present the following day I was amazed and shocked when returning the next day to find that someone, apparently EA, had mown the banks above this birds chosen habitat in the middle of the breeding season when lots of small birds would have eggs or young. Possibly as a consequence of this action the bird was not seen or heard again that day or 3 days later. It was 20:55 when I found the bird so images are poor but some brief snippets of song and the call notes were recorded and are linked on the blog post below and here http://pewit.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/blog-post.html |
