Arriving at the Dower House Hotel, Manor Road, this morning (Thursday) and fortified by a glass of Orange/Mango from the bar, I soon connected with the SpotFly in the sunny garden at this 'traditional' site. Also there incl. : Swallows nesting above a rear doorway Jay Song Thrush Goldfinches 2 Buzzards circling above. I also visited a 'traditional' nesting site in Iddesleigh Road, Woodhall Spa and was pleased to find a pair of SpotFlys using it. Freddy |

Spotted Flycatchers in Southrey Wood again. Didn't see any at Edenham Church yard today after a quick check, but glimpsed one in the neighbouring rectory garden. |

Good to see you're back on the trail of Spotflys Freddy. 3 birds have been seen in St Helens churchyard Willingham by Stow and 1 or 2 in a garden in the village. 2 nest boxes were put up in the churchyard earlier this year but they nested in a neighbouring garden last year. We're hoping to ring a few later. |

Spotted Flycatcher in Wellingore, c. 12 miles S of Lincoln on A607. Adult bird flycatching in the sun in a previously favoured area of Wellingore Hall garden alongside All Saints' Church. Also incl. : Mistle Thrush Song Thrush Greenfinch Swift Swallow House Martin Freddy |

Spotted flycatchers back at Riseholme college-arrived a couple of weeks ago. Not sure how many are back but definitely 1 pair located in small woodland just north east of the lake. Ian Birch |

Spotted Flycatchers at Willingham by Stow and Doddington Thanks for your post info, Ian. I tracked down a Spotted Flycatcher in the St Helens Willingham by Stow churchyard c.12.00 noon today (Sunday). It was flycatching from bare tree branches and wires at the rear of the churchyard bordering a neighbouring house garden. I also checked out the 'traditional' site in a large garden to the rear of the Doddington Hall Farm Shop. A Spotted Flycatcher was performing well, repeatedly flying down to take insects just above the lawn. Freddy |

hello freddy my old mate nice to hear from you, I led a trip to padley gorge and had never seen so many spot flys for many years, I hope they are on the way back, what does the team think, up or just level this year, many kind regards to to you freddy, take care terry whalin  just remember waxwings next

Hi Terry, Pleased to read your comments,m8. From my recent, mainly local, trips looking for SpotFlys, I would reckon that, if anything, they are down in numbers in the general Lincoln/Woodhall Spa area this year. Although I have managed to catch up with them at 5 previously recorded sites, I failed to connect on trips to 10 other such sites in : Potterhanworth Fulbeck Caythorpe Woodhall Spa (2) Spridlington (2) Stow Brampton (2). They may be more numerous in the south of the county. Perhaps Hugh Dorrington (Dunsby) and Ian Misselbank (Rippingale) have seen a few locally. Freddy P.S. It would be great to get a 2014/2015 winter irruption of Waxwings but it does look as if Northern Europe (incl. Scandinavia) will be having a good berry crop this year. |

23/6 Knaith Hall near Gainsborough 1 pair of Spotted flycatchers in the grounds of Knaith hall this evening. Also around a pair of Curlew, calling Oystercatcher and Green woodpecker. Ian Birch |

Spotted Flycatchers return to Aubourn Hall (c. 5 miles S of Lincoln) I last recorded SpotFlys at Aubourn Hall about seven years ago although I have returned most years since to check the site out. I was very pleased this morning to find a pair nesting in the traditional area by the converted stable block. A SpotFly was flycatching from an overhead wire and flying down with a beakful of insects to the nest in a creeper against a house wall. Great to see them back. Freddy |

Two pairs of Spotted Flycatchers have had nests at Hill Holt again this year, one has just successfully fledged 5 young, but the other nest, which contained 4 chicks, unfortunately failed; all chicks dying two days after hatching. We are looking for the next nests as there were two broods from each pair last year. The successful nest was located on the top of a fence post that was lent against a wall in a secluded corner but just 2 metres from my office window, so i have had a real treat the last 2 or 3 weeks watching the developments; they actually became quite the celebrities with the staff who were sad to see them go yesterday.
