I flushed a Stone Curlew this evening (1906hrs), it flew up from the edge of the salt marsh, near the shorebird fence. The bird was in view for about 20 seconds, which was good enough to see the distinctive upper wing pattern and the big beady yellow eye. The bird was initially observed at about 50 metres range, it flew off towards the East Dunes. Due to the high spring tides and nesting shorebirds, I was not able to search for it. Completely mental for July, presumably a non-breeder !

Further new arrivals came in the form of a juvenile (very spotty) Redstart and 4 Spoonbills. Meanwhile offshore were 2 Arctic Skua, an Arctic Tern, 60 Little Tern, 15 Common Tern and 70 Sandwich Tern

Cheers,

Richard

Seen again by John Shaughnessy this evening at 2058hrs, observed in flight from the Bird Observatory viewing platform, where it flew south over the saltmarsh, immediately west of the East Dunes. It was last seen going down in the saltmarsh near the Wash Viewpoint.
