The Lincolnshire Bird Club

There was a Ruddy Shelduck and a Barnacle Goose with the large mixed flock of Greylags and Canadas today. Most of the waders were on the second flash and included 1 LRP, 2 Ringed Plover, 4 Little Stint, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 1 Dunlin, 14 Ruff, 8 Snipe and a Redshank. 2 Marsh Harriers and a Kingfisher were also seen.

Thanks Geoff. After tramping for 3 days dawn to dusk. I couldn't be bothered to walk round to other hide. A lady asked if the orange goose (Ruddy Shelduck) was still here. I almost laughed as apart from that single question regarding its colour, the lady couldn't describe it.
I checked the flock of geese and the many gulls washing off but didn't see anything unusual.
NB: I must take questions more seriously in future!

Re: Seating in hide. After being on my feet all day i headed for Manby and on openingvthe hide door was delighted to see such a fine array of seats available inside.
Sadly my enthusiasm soon wained once I'd tried the double garden seat, followed by the patio, then the picnic seat. As unfortunately one would require a kneck like a Giraffe to view the assembled wildfowl & gulls through the viewing slots, using an angled scope.
So yes! I did the unthinkable and took the very comfortable plastic garden seat outside and veiwed from the side of viewing screen instead.
NB: Nothing flew off, even when a local lady joined me on the seat.

Today the Barnacle Goose was back, also seen were 2 Garganey, 2 LRP, 4 Little Stint, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Dunlin, 17 Ruff, 5 Snipe, 7 Curlew, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank, 1 Kingfisher and a Water Rail.
Yesterday, 1 Ruddy Shelduck still, 2 LRP, 1 Ringed Plover, 4 Little Stint, 2 Curlew Sandpiper, 3 Dunlin, 24 Ruff and 1 Green Sandpiper.

14 ruff, 1 curlew sandpiper and a little stint from the garden shed hide. Can someone tell me how to get to this hide now someone has put barbed wire across the old access point at the side of the hedge
I went down the wrong side of the hedge and obviously all the birds moved off into areas difficult to see

Hi Chris,
I'm glad you reminded me about the access to the hide, I haven't visited that hide at all this year because of the fence (I'm too old to climb through barb wire). Tonight I rang the farmer about it, who it appears hadn't thought about access to the hide, it was put up to keep the cattle out of the crops. However he said he will make some sort of entrance within the next two days.
I did a visit today, the 2 Garganey were still on the first flash but the only waders seen were 5 Ruff, 1 Curlew Sandpiper and a Curlew. Also seen were 1 Barnacle Goose, 2 Little Egret, 1 juvenile Marsh Harrier and a Kingfisher.

Sheila and I, with Alan Temple in tow, visited the 'shed' yesterday. The farmer has fitted some cable sleeve over the electrical top wire and the top barbed wire strand. Climbing through is quite straightforward now providing you can bend down far enough!

It was quite obvious that no-one has entered the shed for some time as I had to trample down all the vegetation that had grown in front of the door. As further evidence of this the last entry in the logbook was 26/06/2013!

The shed is open for business!

Hi Geoff. I reported Dunlin, Little Stint & the Snipe in an earlier post today. Don't know what happened to that post though?? (Disappeared on interweb maybe?)

Really pleased you gave me directions to Manby & Levee.
When I'm passing I always pop in for an hour or so on my way back home to Notts. Thanks Geoff.

The Pectoral Sandpiper was still on the 1st Flash this morning, also seen were 2 Pintail, 5 Ringed Plover, 6 Curlew Sandpiper, 17 Ruff, 15 Snipe and a Black-tailed Godwit and the Little Stint was reported.
Yesterday the 2 Garganey were seen again.

With the water levels rising again most of the waders have left, today there were 1 Curlew Sandpiper, 16 Ruff and a Pintail. 16 Pink-footed Geese had joined the 100's of Greylags.

We haven't had much rain, I think the landowner has some way of letting in more water, also the drainage board have weir controls on the various ditches which can cause water to flow into the pools, this is probably the reason why levels have been high throughout the summer?
