After failing to see any of the days good birds at Saltfleet, Pye's hall and RAF Donna Nook we decided to go home via Manby Flashes. When we arrived at Manby Alan Temple was already in the hide but there were few birds to see except a very noisy gathering of Canada and Greylag Geese. Alan had never been to the 'shed' so we showed him the way. There were a few waders on the flash and several small waders flew towards the main flash having been disturbed by the noisy geese. We walked back to the main flash and went into the hide. Almost straightaway birds started to arrive maybe due to the shower we walked through on our way to the hide.
I at once noticed a Great White Egret at the far side of the flash and got busy with my camera (see photo in Album). Other birds noted during the next hour were:- Snipe 9 Ruff 21 Little Egret 17 Grey Heron 7 Little Stint 1 Barnacle Goose 1 Common Buzzard 2 Ringed Plover 3 Curlew Sandpiper 3 Pectoral Sandpiper 1 (Found by Alan Temple) Kingfisher 1 Dunlin 3 Yellowhammer 6
Both the Great White Egret and the Pectoral Sandpiper were still present when we left at 4pm.
Regards,
Colin and Sheila
