The Lincs. coast was not a place for the faint hearted today and only a few brave souls braved the appalling weather to search for birds. Linda and I got soaked before lunch, changed clothes in the car at lunch time and then got soaked again! A frustrating morning with no sign of yesterdays good birds, and after a chat with John Clarkson, Andy Sims and Steve Lorand, we went our separate ways with Linda and I heading towards Pyes. Part way along the track we put up a small bird which flew into the long grass on the sloping bank. I climbed up the bank and moved slowly to where the bird had gone in and it then dropped down and disappeared into grass on the other side of the track. As I descended the bird took to the wing again giving good flight views as it flew about 25 yards towards the realignment area. Small locustella, short tail, short wings rapid wing beats, it dropped into the long grass. I phoned JC and he, along with AS and SL joined Linda and I in a search of the area. Frustratingly, we found nothing, but the bird looked really good for a Lancy. After lunch, better luck when we happened upon a Pallas's Warbler feeding beside the track, again to the north of Stonebridge car park. Whilst I was getting some video of it, Linda found a second Pallas's Warbler within a few feet of the other one with both on view at the same time! Few people were around, but we were able to put four birders from Teesside and two from Norfolk on to one of the birds. Later I picked up one of the many Goldcrests that were around, it had managed to trap a wing in the spikey grass. We released it into cover. Roy & Linda |

Roy, i take my hat off to you, Linda et al who were out birding today. Spent the day in the office trying to see the Humber and birds through the rain drops pouring down the glass and thinking how glad i was inside. Must admit though that I would have been out if the possibility had presented itself. James |
