This afternoon I had the following over Swanpool:- 2 flocks of Fieldfares, c80 & c110 south. 1 Flock of Skylarks, 23 south. 1 flock of Meadow Pipits, 6 south. 1 flock of Pink-footed Geese, c70 west. Strangely both flocks of Fieldfares were silent and, speaking to Dean Nicholson, he'd had 2 flocks of c30 & c50 over Teal lake this morning, also silent. The flocks of Skylarks, Meadow Pipits And Pink-feet were all calling. |

Hi Andy, I was very interested in your and Dean's observations. I spent the morning at Donna Nook with others from the Mid Lincs Ringing Group where we witnessed a considerable passage of Thrush species which Steve Lorand will elaborate on in his daily report. Large numbers of Fieldfares were passing overhead but the vast majority were silent - something I hadn't noticed before. Anyone got any suggestions? |

I was working in the north sea yesterday, and we had lots of starlings, song thrush and redwings over - all flying southwest. No fieldfares were recorded, and I am yet to see one this autumn... |

most of the day around Barton pits and looking up but no thrushes just infrequent flocks of Starlings heading sw about 2000 in total; somewhat odd not to pick up any thrush flocks; several Blackbirds and Robins at Pyewipe this morning but again no sign of any vis mig |

I spent the morning in the Crook Bank area which was teeming with thrushes from first light. Minimum counts of: Blackbird 275, Fieldfare 185, Redwing 480, Song Thrush 40, Ring Ouzel 4. Many of the thrushes were busy stripping the bushes of berries and then heading inland whilst others flew straight inland having come in/off. Birds were still coming in/off at 1345. Also 4 Brambling, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Jay, 4 Goldcrest, 6 Tree Sparrow and 19 Long-tailed Tit. Approx 220 flighty Twite on the beach. Regards Nige |
