Hi Russell.
Had brief but half decent views of a similar looking goose at Tetney recently. Guessed it was a hybrid.
Having said that having a slightly less prominent white flank patch,
or a white neck collar that doesn't reach quite so far round the the neck as in this bird, is probably not positive evidence of hybrid identity.
One wonders how common hybrids are?

Thanks Derick, hybrid was an initial thought.

Managed this shot as it flew off Chris. It may be a little over exposed but I think it highlights the light belly.

Perhaps Pale-bellied x Dark bellied

Why a hybrid Russ? Looks like Pale-bellied Brent doesn't it?

Phil, the bird didn't look quite right to me compared to the limited number of other pale-bellied's I have seen.
Others have seen the bird and the pictures and also have some doubts.
I am always open to your's and other's opinions.

I'm certainly no expert on goose hybrids but your flight shot seems to show clean cut white underparts ?

Haven't seen flight shot. More thought required.

Seeing those underparts says Pale-bellied Brent to me. I'm struggling to see anything that would suggest otherwise.

Chris

Would the grey on the belly extend between the legs on Pale-bellied?

Always learning something about our hobby but Viewing pictures on phone doesn't help much. Will take another look at home. Any more thoughts on this Brent Goose?

The growing consensus seems to be in favour of Pale-bellied Brent, I am happy to agree with those that have more experience of this breed.

Thanks for all your replies.

Russell
