After seeing reports of Little Auks along the east coast I went down to Saltfleet Haven for the afternoon high tide. 1 Little Auk landed on the haven for 5 minutes before flying off. 5 Eiders flew south, a Short-eared Owl landed on the seaward side of the marsh and on the ponds were 1 Goldeneye and a Kingfisher. At Donna Nook. A one hour watch from the dunes from 1005. Due to the bombing range, the watch was over quite a distance. Moving north were 2 Little Auks, 2 Little Gulls, 2 Gannets and 5 Eiders. To the south were 16 Gannets, 3 Fulmars, 57 Kittiwakes, 5 Arctic Skuas, 2 Great Skuas, Pomarine Skua, 6 skuas sp., 5 auks sp., 4 Common Scoters, Eider, Teal and 3 Red-throated Divers. A tired-looking Short-eared Owl was flushed from the edge of the dunes. 40 Whooper Swans and 2 Taiga Bean Geese on the fields. |

On the Humber off Barton this morning at least 72 Little Auks but at least 2 taken by the local Peregrine pair and possibly others went that way. 4 female Goosander west, one Dark bellied Brent, 1 juv Gannet, 159 Teal and 100 Wigeon. Had a report this afternoon of a Hoopoe on Waters Edge but not had chance to look for it yet: the last Barton bird was also there late Oct to Nov 2nd 1999 |
