So very calm today. Reflections abound and my favourite was the Riverside redshank skimming on quivering wings millimetres above the brown glass table top. The damp bronzed the autumn reed leaves and a cetti's warbler exploded into song almost at my feet. It's passage through the base of the tangle allowed me to see this rustic resident and i was filled with reflection too, remembering the many times I've failed to catch a glimpse of something so loud, so close, so cryptic. A bearded zinged a few metres away and two water rail called nearby.....I filled my nose with the smell of the swamp.
