Dunsby Fen - Peregrine - juv female Marsh Harrier - juv/female - a green wing tagged bird - to distant to read. Norfolk tagged birds carry green tags, if any one gets to read this tagged bird, report it to the Owl&Hawk Trust. Red Kite over Hawthorpe near Bourne. Thurlby Pits - Could only find a 1st w Med Gull in the roost tonight. Regards David |

Hi David, My wife and I spent an hour or so down Dunsby Fen Saturday afternoon. Perhaps it was you we spoke to? We also saw the wing-tagged Marsh Harrier and another juvenile female. We saw the 1st year female Peregrine catch a Stock Dove which it caught and chased on the wing rather than stooping on it. Also 1 Merlin, 8 Kestrels, 7 Common Buzzards, 400+ lapwing, 80 Golden Plovers and 1 Corn Bunting. best regards, Ian |

Hi Ian No it wasn't me, I have never seen another birder on the fen!, surprising as it's such a fantastic place. Hopefully one of use will get that wing tag number. I did report it to the Owl & Hawk trust, on there web site as a sighting, with no number. Regards David |

Hi, i was down Dunsby fen, Monday 11am till approx 12.30pm, several Buzzards and Kestrels, a single Merlin, a lovely flock of Fieldfares and the Marsh Harrier with the tags that just wouldn't sit still. It would let me get my scope just about on it before flying off..... several times!... very annoying. There was also a Red Kite near the village end of the fen as well. Cheers, Oliver. |

we have had 2 different Norfolk tagged birds at Alkborough this year NT and what appeared to be KX -- also saw a juv with green tags at Rimac on Monday but again could not get a good enough photo to get the code-- assume it is wandering up and down the coast so maybe someone else has seen it |

A juv Marsh Harrier was at Middlemarsh Farm on 17th Sept and then at Gib on 29th Sept. Green wing tags with PZ in black. I haven't recorded it since though. Hi Nige, Thanks for the e-mail. PZ was tagged and ringed on Haddiscoe Marshes on the Norfolk/Suffolk border on 24.06.2014. It was 1 of 2 and was sexed as a male, with its' sibling being a female. This is the first sighting of either, so thanks very much for the sighting report. Cheers Phil |

Sent to me by Nigel Deacon.... Hi Nigel, Thanks for reporting the sighting of a wing tagged Marsh Harrier. LD was ringed and tagged at the RSPB reserve at Lakenheath Fen on 12.06.2014. It was one of two and sexed as a female, with its' sibling being a male. This is the first sighting of this bird, so many thanks. For further information on the scheme take a look at our web site at www.nwnrg.co.uk Thanks Phil Littler North West Norfolk Ringing Group The bird at Dunsby Fen 19/12/14 For reference, she has a broken P9 in her left wing, so any green wing-tagged juv marsh harrier with the corresponding gap is likely to be her. One of the pics is attached – I have about 6 where the number is readable. They are all a bit distant, but perfectly clear. Regards, Nigel |

Fantastic, thank you Nigel, I think photography is possibly the best way of getting these numbers. At least we know where it was tagged now. Regards David |

Great Work. I now think there must have been two wing-tagged harriers down Dunsby Fen. My first sighting which I reported to John Badley was a bird with one tag, but very distant. Later I saw a bird with tags on both wings and thought I must be mistaken about the first one with one tag, but now it seems it was the bird in the photo. BUT there is definitely one with two green wing tags as well! Ian |

Apologies for the delay in posting this image (Christmas got in the way!). This is a second image sent by Nigel Deacon...this shows the bird with BOTH wing-tags, it therefore isn't the bird with just one-tag! |
