Until a few days ago I had never heard of Hawthorpe. I looked it up on Google Earth when I noted some seo's were seen there. The place looked promising so after a tour I finished up there. First I noted two Red Kite as I drove past Twyford Wood. Arriving at Hawthorpe (an excellent spot) the first bird I noted was another Red Kite and then a distant Short Eared Owl. In the end I saw four short-eared owls in the air together. My first for a couple of years. One even had a mid-air squabble with the kite. Also in the area were a buzzard, two kestrels and a stonechat Along with the great northern diver, black necked grebe, green sandpiper and scaup I saw out of the county I would almost say I justified my petrol spend
