Post subject:  River Witham, Bardney

A New Year's afternoon walk between Bardney, past Bardney Lock as far as the weir near Shortferry along the 'Water Rail Way' revealed:-

Goosander 9
(This comprised groups of 3 near Bardney bridge, 2 more near old railway bridge at lock and 4 further along the old river course near the lock.)
Kestrel 1
Marsh Harrier 1
Little Grebe 1
Tufted Duck 5 (1m + 4f)
Mallard 43
Cormorant 2
Pied Wagtail 4
Mute Swan 28 (inc. 7 juv.)
Coot 3
Moor Hen 3
Black-headed Gull 3
Magpie 2
Blackbird 9

Extremely strong S/W winds cutting across the fen at least it was mild !

Cheers

Rob
