APOLOGIES FOR THIS LATE POST THIS IS MY FIRST ACCESS TO THE COMPUTER SINCE YESTERDAY !
Saturday -Out and about starting at Marston in the morning .

Marston

On the Lagoon - 40 + Gadwall, 32 Mallard , 1 Tufted , 5 Teal

Down the track - Mixed flock of 20+ Great , Blue and Longtailed Tits, 2 Grey Wagtails near to red fence

In the reed beds - 4 water rail ( showing well in the morning sunshine ) + 2 Curlew

On the turf field 40 + pied wags .

On the rough ground behind the hedge flock of 80+ Linnets ( feeding on the ground but very mobile once passing horses had disturbed them ) , and a flock of 30 + chaffinches with alas no bramblings in them .

COLSTERWORTH / SKILLINGTON AREA
Large numbers of gulls LBB , H , GBB, and Common roosting on fields with several thousand Starlings ( 4000 estimated )
+ 7 red Kite + 4 Buzzards

KIRKBY UNDERWOOD - 5 Red Kites together overhead.

DUNSBY FEN - 3 Barn Owls, 1 Peregrine , 1 Sparrowhawk . Upto 2000 Golden Plover on Hacconby Fen which were frequently harrased by said Peregrine .

As said in a previous post a very local shoot at Dunsby did not do the barn owls any favours disturbing them from their daytime roost early .

Whilst working in the vicinity yesterday I returned for an hour fom 2-30 to 3-30 .

Quietly viewing from four separate points I estimate that I saw a minimum of 13 Water rail in the reeds all close to the pathway , if these are closeby then just how many are there in the entire site . They seem to favour the flow of water and possibly nutrients from the concrete channel . It made a collegues day as they had never seen a WR before , talk about overkill !

Additional sightings 3 Chiffchaff ( in reeds ) and many wrens 15 + .

1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Buzzard .
