Post subject:  Murmeration

There has been a Starling murmeration building near Norton Disney for the last couple of weeks. After being away last week i hadn't been that way home for just over a week but on the way home late afternoon, 4.45pm ish, today i noted that it had grown considerably.
I have no idea how people estimate the number of birds in these murmerations but looking on youtube, where approximations are given and comparing the one i saw tonight, i would say it is between 25,000 and 40,000 birds.
It is probably best viewed from the end of Folly Lane SK 86158 59602 looking south towards Stapleford woods. The birds swirl around the fields before going to roost in the willow scrub just in front of the woods in the gravel workings.
It is an impressive sight and well worth a watch.

Cheers,

Oliver.
