Post subject:  South Forty Foot Drain @ Chain Bridge, Boston

On the way to Oldrids, I took the opportunity to get the bins out and do 5 mins birding up South Forty Foot drain at Chain Bridge. I observed the stretch of water immediately to the east of the bridge. Amazingly fruitful offerings!

Mallard - 4 pairs.
Tufted Duck - 5
Mute Swan - 2
Greylag Goose - 1
Coot - at least 8
Moorhen - 3
Great Crested Grebe - 1 pair courting
Wren - 1 singing in the drainside vegetation.

These all expected, but not these:

Little Grebe - 1 pair
Gadwall - 2 pairs
Goldeneye - 1 pair, frequently diving for food.
Grey Wagtail - 1 on rocks alongside the drain.

Mistle Thrush singing from a TV aerial along Glen Drive.
Also, a Song Thrush has been visiting my garden daily for about a week now - hoping this is a good sign of potential nesting here this summer!
