Hello,

1 Med Gull (ad) still present in Weelsby Woods this morning + C. Buzzard on ground again. 1 Male Reed Bunt. on Gooseman's Field + c.25-30 Pinkies flying N at a distance (presumed over Clee, seen from GY).

Chris Atkin & I have been checking the Med Gull most mornings this week. Howard Bunn reported 2 birds at the beginning of the week yet we have only managed 1. Today's bird was in almost full summer plumage (some white speckling on top of crown, residual grey near eye). The question is just how fast do gulls of this type moult? Would be nice to get an accurate idea of how many individual birds are visiting the area. Believed 2 but outside chance of 3.

Regards,

Josh

Hi Josh,
Google has thrown up the following link http://www.gull-research.org/melanos/med02cy.html but in a nutshell Mediterranean Gulls head/body moult takes place between February and April.
